Timothy Abdul-Matin

Leon El-Alamin, an ex-offender who was born and raised in Flint, Michigan where he has resided for 32 years. In the early 2000'S he was set up during a drug deal and was sentence to 12 to 20 years in prison. It was during his incarceration that he began to seek atonement for his lifestyle, and after intensive study he adopted the Islamic faith. Previously know as Leon Wilson he began to recondition his self and do to his participation in self-improvement programs such as; life skills, anger management, conflict resolution, racial diversity, and warden’s forum which is similar to city council. Inmates elected this person to act as a median to the warden of the facility. Since his release he have been actively involved in furthering his education, co-founded the 3R’s, completed construction training, joined the democratic party and serves on the master planning committee.

Timothy Abdul-Matin, a fulltime social activist and co-founder of 3R’s. In 2001, he was sentenced to serve 109 months in the Michigan Department of Corrections for Armed robbery, felony firearm, and distribution of marijuana. During his incarceration, he established his new found faith and sparked a new mission. Mr. Abdul-Matin participated in several vocational programs, earned his GED, completed all court recommendations, was a leader amongst his faith base religion, served on the warden’s form, aided an assisted in self-help programs. After his release, he successfully completed parole, earned several more vocational training certifications and have been an advocate for social change and a pillar of the community. He is fully

committed to refining, reforming and rebuilding the urban reality of the community.

Roy Fields, 31 year old lifetime resident of Flint and former high school standout in which he excelled in sports and received many awards and accolades from his athletic performance in football, soccer, andtrack-n-field. MrFields attended Northwood University for a year before he had a run in with the law which involved him receiving a 3-15 year sentence. At the height of his career he faced the biggest adversity he ever faced, being incarcerated. Itwas during his incarceration that he took the initiative to change himself

before re-entering re-entering society. Since his release he has received several construction certifications and is an apprentice Iron worker out of Novi, Michigan and is also a part of The

Iron Worker Union, local 25. Mr. Fields stresses that hard work, dedication, good work ethic, family support can go a long way when and if utilized properly.
